An EPUB is not a Word document with a different extension.
An EPUB contains your text, images, chapter structure and navigation in a package built for reading apps. In a reflowable EPUB, readers can change the text size. Lines and pages adjust to their screen.
That is why a page break in Word, a print page number or a particular font cannot determine exactly what every e-reader displays. Chapter headings, paragraph structure and a clickable table of contents matter more than matching the original page count.
A print PDF serves a different purpose.
A PDF fixes the page size and where text appears. Our standard book interior is black and white, 6 × 9 inches (15.24 × 22.86 cm), without bleed. Fonts are embedded. The cover is a separate file and is not included.
Check that this size suits your printer before ordering. Minimum page counts, cover measurements and final acceptance depend on the publishing service. Inspect its preview and order a printed proof before publication.
When is paying for formatting worthwhile?
If you enjoy doing your own formatting, you may not need us. Kobo Writing Life can convert supported source files to EPUB, and Amazon offers free tools and formatting guides. Those are sensible options if you want to prepare and check the files yourself.
StyleMyBook is for authors who want that work handled for them. We apply one of three styles, produce both formats, validate the EPUB with EPUBCheck and inspect the finished files before delivery. We preserve your writing; this is not an editing or cover-design service.
What happens after you choose a style?
First, run the free check on your complete Word .docx file. It takes place in your browser and does not send us the manuscript. If no blocking issues are found, continue to the Payhip checkout.
After payment, submit the manuscript, book title, author name and chosen style. We format the book and personally review the results. Delivery is within five working days after payment and receipt of a suitable manuscript. One combined list of layout corrections is included after the first delivery.
Common questions
Will Kobo or Kindle definitely accept the EPUB?
No. EPUBCheck tests the technical file structure; it does not approve your content or guarantee retailer acceptance. The store also reviews the cover, metadata, rights and content. Preview the actual book in the service you intend to use.
Can you convert a PDF back into an editable book?
Not within the fixed-price service. We start from a clean Word .docx manuscript. Converting a PDF can introduce missing text and broken structure, so contact us first.
Will the EPUB look exactly like the printed book?
No. The EPUB reflows to suit the reading device; the PDF has a fixed layout. Both use the chosen style, but page counts, line breaks and sometimes fonts differ.
